Saturday 13 June 2015 - Porto Kayio

Up at 6:30 to make an early start.  We get away at about 7:15 having filled the water tank again, to have the maximum.  The route we have planned will not give us anywhere to get water or electricity for the next couple of days at least.

Richard has said that the weather report is for very light winds and settled weather. However, as we are going past a notorious headland (where the couple we entertained last night broke their in mast reefing) I am being cautious and have put a sea sickness patch on.

The day does start very quiet.  There is little or no wind.  The sea is flat and it is sunny.  The wind does pick up once or twice and Richard puts up some sail, but after a few minutes it dies away again and we mainly motor.  Richard has calculated that we have enough fuel on board to motor all the way to Rhodes.  Who knows, that may be necessary.

We are both a bit dozy, but Richard does stay alert enough to spot a dolphin.  He is all on his own.  He jumps behind the boat and does 3-4 spectacular leaps in the air before he disappears.  Great fun.

At about 3:00pm the wind suddenly builds up.  Before we know it, it is blowing a force 5 gusting up to 20knots.  Of course, this would happen just before we come in to moor for the night.  We are staying in a tiny village on a pretty cove.  It is all anchoring.  We anchored in the high wind.  Luckily the sea is quite flat and it is not uncomfortable.  However it is now 10pm and it is still blowing a force 4.  If this were just the usual afternoon sea breeze it would have dropped by now.  So I am a bit concerned about what weather conditions we will get tomorrow when we go around Maleas point.  We cannot even get any weather reports here, because there is no internet connection.  So this posting will have to wait for another day.
